Recommendation to Enlarge the Submarine Fleet in Israel on the Grounds of the Turkish Navy

It was reported that Israeli security officials recommended the Tel Aviv administration to increase the submarine fleet to 8 with new purchases, citing the strength of the Turkish Navy, which currently has 14 operational submarines and is expected to increase this number to 18 in the coming years.

In the news of Israel Army Radio, it was stated that Israel closely followed the strengthening of the Turkish Navy in the field of submarines and made a move to expand its submarine fleet with German-made "new and advanced technology" vehicles. The news noted that Türkiye currently has 14 operational submarines and this number will be increased to 18, while Israel has 5 submarines and the 6th submarine is expected to reach the country soon.

The news stated that Israeli defense officials presented their recommendation to the political administration to increase the submarine fleet to 8, and that, in accordance with the last agreement made with Germany, Tel Aviv had the option to purchase the 7th submarine at the same price, but this right has not been exercised yet.

The news reported that defense officials are considering first activating this option without a price increase and then purchasing the 8th submarine. Referring to the submarine personnel force discussions in Israel, the news noted that this issue has not yet been subjected to a professional review at the General Staff level.

According to the news, senior Israeli defense sources noted that the move to purchase submarines could not be realized until the elections and that this step is expected to be taken by the new government.
