Istat: increasing but increasingly older workers in Italy between 2021 and 2026

In Italy, workers are increasing but aging.

According to Istat, between 2021 and 2026 the labor market showed a positive trend, with an increase in the employment rate (+4.4 percentage points, approximately 1 million 600 thousand more employed) and a decline in unemployment (-3.4 points, with 787 thousand fewer people looking for work).

Employment growth affected all age groups but not the youngest (-1.2 points), who often delayed starting work to dedicate themselves to study.

The most significant increase in employment was recorded in the 50-64 age group (+7.8 points), also due - explains the Institute of Statistics in a focus of the Note on the performance of the September economy - to the progressive aging of the population and pension reforms.
