Jeongyul Hwang breaks personal high score in women's single short program at the 5th ISU Junior Grand Prix

Figure skating women's singles hopeful Hwang Jeong-yul (Suri High School) broke her personal high score in the short program of the 5th competition of the 2026-2027 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix.

Jeongyul Hwang recorded 66.50 points, including 40.32 technical points (TES), 27.18 artistic points (TES), and 1 deduction point, in the women's single short program held at the Batumi Ice Arena in Batumi, Georgia on the 25th (Korean time), increasing her existing ISU official highest score (63.34 points) by 3.16 points.

Hwang Jeong-yul ranked 5th in the short program, following Wang Yi-han (China, 73.38 points), Yamada Kei (Japan, 69.98 points), Stefania Gladky (France, 67.94 points), and Sophia Shiffrin (Israel, 66.67 points).

Hwang Jeong-yul, who finished in 9th place in the first competition, turned on the green light to enter the 'top 10' in two consecutive competitions.

Hwang Jeong-yul, who earned a GOE of 1.44 points in the triple toe loop-triple toe loop combination jump (8.40 points) as her first jumping task, received a GOE of 0.71 points in the double axel (3.30 points) and cruised by handling the flying camel spin at level 4.

Hwang Jeong-yul, who earned 1.01 GOE points from the triple Lutz (6.49 points) attempted in the bonus point section, processed the change foot combination spin, step sequence, and layback spin all at level 4.

However, it was disappointing that Hwang Jeong-yul was deducted 1 point for 'time exceeding' because he could not finish his acting until the background music ended.

Meanwhile, A-ron Kim (Manduk High School, 56.5 points) and Gyu-jin Hwang (Gyeongseong Middle School, 54.66 points), who participated in the men's singles short program, were ranked 17th and 20th, respectively, and were pushed to the lower to mid-tier.
