Court orders mental insanity test for accused of stabbing his mother-in-law to death in Sertãozinho

The court ordered this Wednesday (16) that Ygor Christian Felizardo, accused of stabbing his mother-in-law to death in Sertãozinho (SP), be subjected to a mental insanity exam. According to the defense, Ygor will be evaluated by state psychiatric experts. The deadline for analysis is 45 days, but can be extended if necessary.

Ygor has been in preventive detention since June this year. At the time, he confessed to the police that he killed Leonice Aparecida Moscon, 62, in her home.

According to lawyer José Augusto Costa, with the results of the exam, the Court will decide whether or not Ygor had the capacity to understand what he was doing at the time of the crime. The legal measure applicable to the case will also be defined.

"We have argued since the investigation that he needs an examination to assess his mental capabilities and only an expert panel can confirm this. Given his psychiatric history (BAD, persecutory delirium, generalized anxiety and insomnia), there is a high possibility that this crime only occurred due to a psychiatric crisis combined with the lack of medication", says Costa.
