Smart agriculture and quarantine cooperation and K-food export company meeting held

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hong Guk-ki = The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 4th that Vice Minister Kim Jong-gu will visit China from the 5th to the 7th.

Regarding Vice Minister Kim's visit to China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained, "It is a follow-up measure to the MOU for the export of Korean sweet persimmons signed at the Korea-China summit in November last year, and its main purpose is to restore Korea-China agricultural cooperation in the wake of China's appointment as chairman of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) this year."

In detail, the 19th Korea-China Agricultural Cooperation Committee, which was last suspended in 2018, will be jointly held with China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on the 7th for the first time in eight years.

This will resume policy dialogue between the two countries to respond to the global food security and climate change crises.

On the 6th, as a side event of the Agricultural Cooperation Committee, a friendly soccer match involving employees of the agriculture and rural ministries of both countries will be jointly held for the first time in 13 years.

After the game, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it plans to lay the foundation for continuing next-generation cooperation through a meeting with young civil servants from both countries.

In addition, Vice Minister Kim plans to discuss with Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in smart agricultural technology cooperation and livestock quarantine, and with Zhang Baofeng, Department Director of the General Administration of Customs, to discuss quarantine issues for the first Korean sweet persimmon export within the year.

Additionally, during this visit to China, Vice Minister Kim plans to explore ways to expand K-food exports to China through inspections of K-food distribution sites and meetings with K-food export companies.
