Katja Wolf plans to found a party in Thuringia after leaving the BSW

In just a few weeks, Thuringia's current BSW boss Katja Wolf wants to found a new party. The talks were already underway. An exact date has not yet been set, but they want to “do it in October,” Wolf told the dpa news agency. “A new faction requires a new party,” said Wolf.

On Friday, ten of the twelve remaining members of the BSW parliamentary group in Thuringia announced their departure from the party, including Finance Minister Wolf, Environment Minister Tilo Kummer and Digital Minister Steffen Schütz. Three other members had already left the alliance. The BSW, founded by Sahra Wagenknecht, which has governed Thuringia in the so-called blackberry coalition together with the CDU and SPD since the end of 2024, originally had 15 members of the state parliament in Erfurt.

At a meeting of representatives of the former Thuringian BSW leadership with party members and sympathizers late on Sunday afternoon in Weimar, the reasons for the resignations will be explained and why a special party conference planned for Sunday was canceled, said Schütz.
