Detention Order for 31 Lawyers in Personal Data Investigation

NEWS CENTER - Minister Gürlek announced that in the studies carried out under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Computer Crimes Investigation Bureau and the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber ​​Crimes Branch Directorate, it was determined that the personal data of citizens were seized through illegal means.

Minister Gürlek shared the following details about the investigation;

"The privacy of our citizens is untouchable for us. It is never acceptable to capture the personal data of our citizens illegally, to turn them into a commercial commodity and to victimize our citizens by using this information. In this context, in the studies carried out by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, under the coordination of the Computer Crimes Investigation Bureau of our Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it has been determined that the personal data of our citizens were illegally seized and used in interrogation systems called "panels".

Investigations revealed that these illegal systems were sold to some law offices for a fee and made available through a subscription system; It has been understood that some law offices have accessed the personal information of citizens who do not have any legal relationship through these systems and victimized them with untrue statements such as "your debt has fallen into legal proceedings", "you missed the reconciliation process", "seizure proceedings have been initiated against you".

SEARCH AND SEIZURE PROCESS IN 39 DIFFERENT LAW FIRMS

In the first phase of the investigation, judicial proceedings were carried out against the suspects who established and operated the illegal system and were found to be involved in the income stream, and a public lawsuit was filed against 10 suspects.

As the investigation expanded, a detention order was issued today for 31 lawyers, for whom concrete evidence was obtained that they were using the illegal panel system, and search and seizure procedures were initiated in 39 different law offices.
