Klingbeil calls for the inclusion of self-employed people, civil servants and politicians in statutory pensions

Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil insists on including the self-employed, new civil servants and politicians in the statutory pension. “That would be a real contribution to more justice in the system,” said the SPD leader at a public discussion in Heidelberg. The Pension Commission suggests this in its report, and he and Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD) agreed that they now wanted to implement it.

The commission set up by the federal government to reform pensions recommends that self-employed people and politicians also pay into the statutory pension insurance. However, there is grandfathering for civil servants.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Labor Minister Bas had agreed to fully implement the commission's concept - but there have long been debates about individual points such as the abolition of the zero-deduction pension after 45 years of contributions.
