Member of Parliament from the Direct Democracy group, Jarosław Sachajko, uses glasses equipped with a prompter during his speeches in the Sejm, from which he reads the content of formal motions submitted at subsequent sessions.
The glasses have small displays that bring text into the user's field of view. It can be scrolled with finger movements using a special ring.
Experts on the X platform identified the glasses used by the MP as the Even Realities G2 model made in China.
Opinions have appeared on the Internet that the MP's use of Chinese glasses may pose a threat to the state's information security.
When asked by PAP about allegations that his glasses could be used for espionage purposes, Sachajko downplayed these concerns.
If I said that I had particular confidence in Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski or Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, I might be exaggerating. However, I suspect that if there was any such threat, one of these gentlemen would inform the Poles about it. After all, that's what they take money for, said Sachajko.
The MP pointed out that, for example, commonly used mobile phones, including those branded by Apple, electronic watches and autonomous vacuum cleaners, are produced in China. Despite this, the relevant ministers do not alert Poles. If any of these gentlemen (the head of MC Krzysztofo Gawkowski or the coordinator of special services Tomasz Siemoniak - editor) says that there is any threat, I will draw a conclusion from such information - noted Sachajko. He emphasized that he has always been a pioneer in the use of modern technologies.
Patrycja Krzyśpiak from the NASK Disinformation Analysis Center, dealing with the Chinese infosphere and propaganda, told PAP that she did not want to assess either the technological capabilities of the glasses or the political aspects of the case.
However, each of us, regardless of social position, should be aware of how such technology works and pay attention to the country of its origin. Technologies from allied countries are one thing, and Russian or Chinese technologies are another thing, she said.
The NASK expert also pointed out that a greater threat than the alleged possibility of using such glasses for espionage purposes may be the phenomenon of the so-called technological propaganda.
If we are regularly bombarded in the media with information about what technological discoveries are in China - cars, glasses, smart home devices - this makes us a bit overwhelmed by these news. However, it is worth taking a closer look at what lies behind such technological propaganda and what purpose it serves, Krzyśpiak noted.
In her opinion, this narrative is used by China, among others. in broadly understood anti-Western propaganda.
If we boil it down to the simplest conclusion, we can conclude that China is supposedly developed, civilized, lives in the future, and has the most modern gadgets that are supposed to help us in everyday life. On the other hand, there is Europe and the European Union, which is an old, backward world, technologically different from China - said the expert.
She pointed out that pro-China and pro-Russian channels use such narratives to weaken Western democracies and indirectly promote Chinese authoritarianism. If this authoritarianism is associated with such miracles of technology and technology, it is certainly very attractive and can easily be compared with the backward European Union. This feeds the mill of information channels that favor the interests of Moscow or Beijing, she emphasized.
According to Krzyśpiak, the point is not to attack Chinese equipment or equipment from any other country. However, we need to be aware of technological propaganda and know what threats it may involve.
