Credit cards in the phone led to unauthorized purchases of over SEK 100,000

- I just saw: "Thank you for your purchase, thank you for your purchase, thank you for your purchase." Then I realized that the mobile phone had been stolen, says Lisa, whose real name is something else.

On her way to the airport, she discovered at the train station in Naples, Italy that her mobile phone was missing. She panicked and ran back to the hotel with 30 kilos of luggage, hoping to have forgotten it there, but the phone was nowhere to be found.

Only when Lisa regained access to her email after returning home did she discover what had happened.

Shortly after the mobile phone disappeared, someone had made unauthorized purchases with the three digital cards that were stored in the phone. The cards were linked to Lisa's credit accounts.

In less than a day, transactions totaling over SEK 100,000 were completed.

Contacted actors who demanded payment

After many calls and emails, Lisa has finally been right with two out of three of the actors who directed payment demands against her.

In an email, one of the players writes that the company has been able to establish that Lisa did not approve the purchases herself.

The process with the third actor is still ongoing.

- You have to fight yourself, she says.

According to the Consumers' Banking and Finance Agency, the main rule is that those who have been subjected to unauthorized purchases should not have to pay.

But whoever is deemed to have been grossly negligent may be liable for parts of the cost - and in the case of particularly reprehensible behavior for the entire amount.

Doubtful about credit cards on the phone

Exactly how the unauthorized purchases could be carried out is not clear. Lisa thinks someone may have gotten across the code to her phone.

- Maybe you shouldn't have a credit card in your phone, says Lisa.
