Crossed V politician nods the Riksdag's call after election fraud investigation

In an email from Ali to the Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén, which SVT has seen, he announces that he will not attend the roll call that will take place on Monday for all new members of the Riksdag.

"I am sending this email to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to attend the convocation in Sweden's Riksdag on Monday," he writes in the email.

He also wonders if it is possible to apply for two weeks' leave, and refers to "individual matter due to the situation I am in".

"It would feel better if I could officially be off while waiting for notification from the police authority and other efforts so that I can start my work when the case is officially closed," writes Ali in the email.

The answer from V: "Good first step"

Since the application applies to a period that is shorter than one month, it is the Speaker, and not the Riksdag, who makes the decision whether the leave is to be granted or not.

However, according to the Riksdag administration, the email does not count as an official application for leave, as such must be made via a special form.

If the leave is granted, the Left Party will not have the opportunity to bring in a replacement for Ali, as this is only done in the case of leave that is longer than a month.

"We have agreed that this is a good first step," writes the Left Party's press service to SVT.

Investigating suspected election fraud

Mohamed Abdukardir Ali (V) became nationally famous when he unexpectedly cruised past the party's top candidate in Dalarna, Kajsa Fredholm. The police are investigating suspected election fraud in connection with his campaign.

However, Ali is not personally informed of suspicion of crime and denies involvement.

- It is completely, completely, wrong. I have not done it, Ali has previously told SVT.
