The phrase "call to arms" may be misleading. Military qualification is not an order to enter service. This is an administrative and medical procedure during which the commission assesses the ability to perform military service and completes the data in the records.
According to information published by the Ministry of National Defense and Military Recruitment Centers, the qualification for 2027 is to be announced on January 15. The work of district and provincial medical commissions throughout the country will be carried out from February 1 to April 30, 2027.
The largest group that will be covered by this procedure are men born in 2008, as well as men born in 2003–2007 without a military category. However, this does not mean that after the examination they will be sent to military units.
It is worth remembering that the qualification is mandatory for the indicated groups, but military service is not an automatic consequence of appearing before the commission. Universal compulsory military service has not been restored in Poland, so the summons to the commission itself serves primarily to establish the category of fitness for service and to complete the military records. Who, however, will not have to appear for military qualifications, and who - even after receiving a call - will not be put into active service? We explain.
Who will not go for military qualification in 2027?
The following people will not be called up for military qualification:
men born in years other than 2008, if they already have an established category of fitness for military service;
men born in 2003–2007 who already have a specific category of abilities - this group is to be summoned only if they have not previously regulated this matter;
women who do not have qualifications useful for the army and are not educated in the fields indicated in the regulations;
people who are under 18 years of age - unless they volunteer to take part in the qualifications;
older people who already have a regulated attitude to military service and a specific category of abilities.
Women and military qualifications 2027. Who do the calls concern?
Women are not eligible for military qualification on the same terms as men of the basic age. In 2027, the call may apply to women born between 2000 and 2008 who:
they have qualifications useful for military service (working as a psychologist, rehabilitator, radiologist, laboratory diagnostician, IT specialist, ICT specialist, navigator or translator) or are studying to obtain them;
in the school or academic year 2026/2027, they complete their studies in the fields or professions specified in the regulations;
They had not previously taken part in military qualifications.
Who will not go into active military service?
This is a key issue - even a qualified person does not automatically become a soldier. During the procedure, you can receive one of the following categories of abilities:
A – fit for military service;
B – temporarily unfit for military service;
D – unfit for military service in peacetime;
E – permanently and completely unfit for military service – both in peacetime and in the event of mobilization or war.
In practice, a person who:
does not volunteer for the chosen form of service;
receives category D or E - to the extent resulting from this category;
is category B, i.e. temporarily unfit for service until her health condition is reassessed;
will not be established on the basis of separate regulations. Entry into the military register itself is not a vocation.
Disability and military qualification. Possible exemption from personal appearance
The regulations provide for a special solution for some people with certified incapacity for work or disability. They may be exempted from the obligation to appear for the qualifications in person if they successfully provide the relevant commune head, mayor or city president with an appropriate decision and the head of the Military Recruitment Center is informed about it.
This includes, among others: people:
completely unable to work and live independently;
classified as persons with a significant degree of disability;
classified as persons with a moderate degree of disability;
completely incapable of working on a farm.
This is an important distinction: it is not an automatic "removal" from the procedure without any formalities. It is necessary to provide documentation that will determine the ability to serve on active duty.
The lack of a personal summons does not always release you from the obligation
Persons belonging to qualifying groups should check the announcements of the relevant voivode and information from their commune. In accordance with the rules applicable to military qualifications, failure to receive a personal summons does not always exempt one from the obligation to appear if a given person is covered by the announcement.
If the date indicated by the office conflicts, e.g. with illness or other important obstacles, you should immediately contact the commune head, mayor or city president. The authority may set a different date.
