The state election committee determines the final results of the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

One and a half weeks after the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the state election committee determined the final official result and confirmed the already known numbers. The AfD won the election on September 20th with 38.2 percent, ahead of Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig's SPD with 35.5 percent, as the election management in Schwerin announced.

Otherwise, only the Left with 6.5 percent and the Greens with 5.7 percent made it into the state parliament. Voter turnout was just under 80 percent, almost ten percentage points higher than in the 2021 state election.

The CDU left parliament with 4.9 percent. It is the first time in the history of the Federal Republic that the party failed to pass the five percent hurdle in a state election. The FDP also missed re-entry with 1.0 percent. The BSW failed to make it into the state parliament for the first time with 4.8 percent. The AfD will thus receive 32 seats in the new state parliament, the SPD will receive 29 mandates. Five seats each go to the Left and the Greens.
