Man charged for shooting drama in Älvsjö after rent dispute

It was on May 23 that the shooting drama unfolded outside the house in Älvsjö, where the 60-year-old man rented the house from the owners who live abroad. The man had stopped paying rent at the turn of the year. He claimed he had done renovations on the house and a verbal agreement with the owners said he would then live rent-free. Something the owners denied and hired a lawyer to pursue an eviction case with the Norwegian Kronofogden.

Opened fire with the teenage daughter in the house

On the morning in May, the owners, the lawyer and two property managers went to the house to do a superficial inspection of the property. At the time, only the man's teenage daughter was home. When she saw strangers ringing the doorbell and walking in the garden, she called her father. He made his way to the home, retrieved a gun from the house and went outside and started shooting.

One homeowner was hit in the arm and another in the finger. Their lawyer was shot in the abdomen and seriously injured but survived. The caretakers fled the scene. After the shots, the man put the gun down and went outside to wait for the police.

Admits the shots - claims self-defense

In questioning, the 60-year-old admitted the sequence of events. But believes that he acted in an emergency. In questioning, he explained that he was terrified for his and his daughter's safety and that he was in an emergency situation where he was forced to defend himself.

Prosecutors didn't buy the explanation and in early September charged the man with attempted murder, aggravated unlawful threatening and aggravated weapons offense – because the gun was illegal. Today at 11 o'clock the verdict will be announced in Södertörn district court.
