A man is sentenced to prison and deportation after serious violence against a woman in the Highlands

For at least fifteen minutes, the neighbors heard a woman screaming for help and "don't kill me". When the police came to the apartment, in a municipality in the Highlands, she was tied with cable ties and her clothes were in disarray.

According to the woman, he had threatened to rape her, "both before and after he killed her". He also used a knife and tried to tie her legs with a tourniquet.

Knew each other

The woman and the man had known each other for several years, but had never been more than friends. The woman says he recently expressed feelings for her, which were not reciprocated. He says she is making up the violence to hide the fact that they are a couple.

The district court finds, however, that the woman's story is credible. She told about the violence both to the police who came to the apartment and during questioning during the night.

Consequences for the child

The man's resident testified that cable ties, buckles and tape were usually not found in the bedroom or the kitchen, which according to the district court indicates that the man planned the act.

The man is also sentenced to deportation and forbidden to return to Sweden. The social service in another municipality in the county claimed that his child would be negatively affected by his deportation, but the Eksjö district court states that the man's prison sentence also has consequences for the child and that even if the court applied the normal ban on returning for ten years, the child will then have time to grow up.

The man must pay SEK 240,000 in damages to the woman.
