Berlin Marathon: hat trick for Tigst Assefa, Guye Adola's men's success

Ethiopian Tigst Assefa, Olympic vice-champion in 2024 and world champion in 2025, won the Berlin marathon for the third time, achieving the third best time in history over the distance with 2h11'04''.

While traveling about twenty seconds ahead of Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich's world record (2h09'56''), Assefa suffered a decline in the last three kilometers due to a right leg problem and almost limped to the finish line under the Brandenburg Gate. Compatriot Haile Gebrselassie, marathon legend, among others, rushed to help and support her.

Ethiopian dominance also in the men's race, won by Guye Adola, with a time of 2h2'50'' which improves his personal best by over a minute. Winner in Berlin at the end of September 2021 (2h05:45), the thirty-five-year-old Adola preceded his compatriot Gemechu Dida and the Tanzanian David Geay.
