Many storks were found dead on electrical wires in Marmaraereğlisi

Approximately 30 storks were found dead along a high voltage line on the edge of a field in Bahçelievler District of Marmaraereğlisi.

While it was thought that the storks were electrocuted and died, animal lovers and non-governmental organizations took action. Mine Olgaç, President of Marmaraereğlisi Environmental Volunteers Association, who came to the region and examined the area, stated that wild animals, which are a part of nature, should be protected and said, "Unfortunately, dozens of storks are lying dead on the roadside. I think this happens every year, but this is the first time we come across this many. It means that there is a very important problem. They say that they died by touching the electric wires. I think taking these electric poles underground as soon as possible will make a great contribution."

Mine Olgaç also said that electrical wires can also come into contact with each other in windy weather and cause fires.

'THE DISTRICT IS ON THE MIGRATION ROAD OF STORKS'

Olgaç said, "Our district is on the migration path of storks, so I think more attention should be paid. Whatever is necessary should be done. We are also here, let's do whatever is necessary and contribute."

Trakya Electricity Distribution Inc. (TREDAŞ) officials said that they will conduct a detailed inspection in the area where stork deaths occurred and necessary maintenance work will be carried out.
