Meloni meets Costa: Italy ready to discuss the new Multiannual Financial Framework

"Italy is ready to do its part also on the financing of the new Multiannual Financial Framework, as part of a balanced solution that excludes new European taxes and rationalizes the Union's administrative expenses". Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made this clear when she met Antonio Costa at Palazzo Chigi, as part of the tour that is taking the President of the European Council to the capitals of the 27 member states for a discussion on the main dossiers on the European and international agenda, starting with the negotiation on the new Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034.

In the conversation with Costa, the Prime Minister "shared" his proposal "to place competitiveness at the top of the agenda of the next European Council, underlining in particular how the continuous increase in energy prices requires targeted and immediate actions at European level, in support of European businesses and citizens".

Meloni also "confirmed Italy's determination to work for a European budget worthy of the Union's strategic priorities, starting from the Common Agricultural Policy and the Cohesion Policy which, envisaged by the Treaties, remain the basis of European competitiveness and economic security".

"The new budget - the press release highlights - will also have to adequately support industry and research in global competition and strengthen partnerships with the countries of origin and transit of irregular immigration flows".
