MIS-PA hosts third edition of the traveling exhibition 'A Cinemateca é Brasileira - From Comedy to Drama'

Starting this week, the public of Pará will have an appointment with the richness and diversity of the country's audiovisual industry. The Museum of Image and Sound of Pará (MIS-PA), located in Belém, hosts the third edition of the traveling exhibition "The Cinemateca is Brazilian - From Comedy to Drama".

Between the 21st and 29th of September, the Eneida de Moraes Auditorium has daily and completely free screenings of great hits from national cinema.

The project is part of the "Viva Cinemateca" initiative, launched in 2023, which focuses on the recovery of historical collections and the modernization of the institution.

Film genres

Unlike previous editions that focused on specific movements, such as Cinema Novo or Cinema Marginal, this year's exhibition proposes a dive into classic cinematographic genres.

The public will be able to watch Brazilian productions of suspense, science fiction, adventure, melodrama, comedy and drama, showing how the country's filmmakers have always interacted with these formats in a unique way.

For the director of MIS-Pará, Indaiá Freire, public expectations are high and the curation was designed to bring society closer to national artistic production.

"This agenda was built to show what each film represents for our art. We want the museum to be a living space for debate and appreciation of our cultural identity", says Indaiá.

Film critic, professor and researcher Marco Antônio Moreira also highlights the impact of initiatives like this in the capital of Pará. According to him, free access to restored and classic works encourages the formation of new audiences.

"Having an exhibition of this size in Belém is essential to decentralize access to culture. These exhibitions not only entertain, but educate and bring society closer to the history of our own country through screens", assesses the researcher.

Behind the scenes of the projection

To guarantee the best image and sound experience, technical preparations at the Eneida de Moraes Auditorium have already begun.

Designer Ronaldo carries out tests and projections of sections of the works on site, preparing the structure to receive moviegoers from the capital.
