Among the protagonists of Venezia 83, Nicolas Maupas took stock of his experience as host of the Show in an interview with Sky TG24. The actor, who after presenting the opening ceremony will also return to the stage for the closing one, talked about the work done behind the scenes together with Greta Scarano and the emotion of experiencing the festival from a perspective different from that of the actor.
"It was an extremely full and interesting journey," explained Maupas, also recalling the moment shared on stage with George Clooney: "I will keep that photograph forever."
The actor then reflected on the value of cinema as a tool for telling the story of the present. "This profession pushes us to search for human material. We have the continuous opportunity to identify with the lives of others and give them a voice."
According to Maupas, one of the most significant aspects of this edition of the exhibition was precisely the attention to contemporary themes. "It is a cinema that talks about reality", he observed, underlining how many films and meetings have also turned the spotlight on the situation in Gaza and Palestine. "Cinema doesn't solve wars, but it can certainly help dialogue."

âFra Leopoldo is one of those characters that happens to you once in your lifeâ. This is how Pierfrancesco Favino presents âDio rideâ on Sky TG24, the new film by Giovanni Veronesi which will close the 83rd Venice International Film Festival out of competition. Set in the seventeenth century and inspired by true events, it will be released in theaters on October 29th. The cast also includes Silvio Orlando, Alma Noce, Francesco Gheghi, Maurizio Lombardi, Paolo Rossi and Carlo Cecchi
The documentary "Naza", which collects the anonymous testimonies of 24 former members of the Israeli armed forces and intelligence services, is causing discussion at the Venice Film Festival. In the film, sources describe the use of artificial intelligence in military operations in Gaza and describe the feeling of working in a death "factory" or some sort of lethal video game.
After the presentation of the film, the Israeli army "categorically" rejected the accusations contained in the documentary, contesting in particular the use of anonymous testimonies, defined as "unverifiable".
In a statement, the Israeli military also reiterated that it is making "unprecedented efforts to minimize harm to civilians" in the Gaza Strip. The declarations are part of the international debate on the methods of conducting military operations and the use of new technologies in contemporary conflicts.

The Golden Lion of the 83rd Venice Film Festival was awarded to "Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People?" by Shinya Tsukamoto. The award, awarded by a jury made up of high school students from all over Italy, rewards a film capable of reflecting on the horrors of war, the trauma of veterans and the rejection of the logic of violence.
The Cinema for Unicef ââAward instead went to "Naza" by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, awarded for the strength of its denunciation of the situation of the Palestinian people and for its ability to keep attention high on an ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Ritorno a Buenos Aires tells the journey of Mariano Guerra (Adriano Giannini) who returns to Argentina in 2008 after thirty-three years of living in Italy. The man must testify at the trial against the former soldiers responsible for his kidnapping, torture and slavery suffered during the dictatorship. Together with other survivors, he is hosted in the Ministry of Justice quarters awaiting the day of his testimony.
Marco Bechis brings Ritorno a Buenos Aires starring Adriano Giannini to Competition. On set the actor plays Mariano Guerra, a man who returns to Argentina to testify at the trial against the former soldiers who kidnapped, tortured and enslaved him during the military dictatorship. The return to Buenos Aires forces him to confront what it means to have remained alive.
He arrived at the Lido for Russell Crowe, who landed at the dock of the Palazzo del Casino to present "What Love Builds", the documentary out of competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival. With dark glasses, hair tied and a dark suit, the actor stopped with photographers and fans for selfies and autographs before reaching the press conference.

Played by Adriano Giannini, the film follows an Italian doctor who, after thirty-three years spent away from Argentina, returns to Buenos Aires to testify at the trial against the former soldiers who kidnapped and tortured him during the dictatorship. A journey that forces him to confront the ghosts of the past, the weight of memory and the guilt of having survived.
With this new work, Bechis returns to the themes that have marked his filmography, intertwining personal history and collective memory in an intense story about the search for truth and the difficult confrontation with what time cannot erase.
There is a phrase from Pope Francis at the origin of "God laughs", the new film by Giovanni Veronesi chosen to close the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
The director himself told it during a meeting at the Italian Pavilion of the Excelsior Hotel. "Instead of making a comedy film, to make people laugh, I made a drama film about comedy, because for me comedy is a serious thing. And since it is a serious thing, I thought that even God could take it seriously", explained Veronesi.
The director then recalled the quote that accompanied him during the making of the film: "You can laugh even at God, you just need to continue to love him". A phrase that he defined as "a liberation" and which allowed him to address the theme of faith from an original perspective, mixing irony and spirituality.

Veronesi also recounted the contribution of the Congolese priest Jean-Jacques Ilunga, who helped him enter a world that had been little known until then. A journey which, as the director himself admitted, also had a personal effect: "I managed to believe in God for two years. Which is no small thing, believe me. And I felt good".
