MP-RO denounces Poliana dos Santos Gonçalves' brother for robbery and procedural fraud

The MP-RO denounced João Vitor dos Santos Gonçalves, aged 24, for his involvement in the death of his sister, Poliana dos Santos Gonçalves, aged 31.

Two other people were charged with the crime, which remains confidential. Two suspected members of a criminal faction died during investigations.

Poliana was found dead on March 18, tied up and with 24 puncture wounds. The brother, who called the police at the time, was arrested on September 24.

João Vitor was charged with robbery and procedural fraud for allegedly altering the crime scene. The police were suspicious of his behavior after the crime.

Before being killed, Poliana was forced to transfer R$3,100 to the criminals. The group stole his cell phone and his motorcycle.

The Public Ministry of Rondônia (MP-RO) charged João Vitor dos Santos Gonçalves, aged 24, to the court for involvement in the death of his own sister, Poliana dos Santos Gonçalves, aged 31. Two other people were also charged, but their names were not released by authorities. The case remains confidential.

Poliana was found dead inside her own house on March 18, with her hands and legs tied and her eyes blindfolded. The body had 24 puncture wounds caused by a sharp object. It was João Vitor himself who called the police on the occasion.

João Vitor was accused of robbery (robbery followed by death) and procedural fraud. According to the MP-RO, he had altered the crime scene before the police arrived. The others involved were only charged with robbery. The formal accusation will now be analyzed by the Court.

In total, the police concluded that five people participated in the crime. However, two suspects, believed to be members of a criminal faction, died during the investigation and were therefore not charged.

The accused was arrested on September 24. According to the Civil Police, the brother came to be considered a suspect due to his behavior: he showed coldness, showed no feelings and was in a hurry to bury the victim.

The investigation was based on testimonies, expert reports, images from security cameras, breaches of bank secrecy and witness reports. The Public Ministry also reported that João Vitor's fingerprints were found in the residence where the crime occurred.

The complaint points out that Poliana was subjected to physical and psychological violence. Before being killed, she was forced to transfer R$3,100 to the account of one of the suspects. After the crime, the group fled, taking the victim's cell phone and motorcycle.

João Vitor dos Santos Gonçalves published a video on social media shortly after the funeral, in March. In the images he appears crying, says he found the body and says that one of his first reactions was to pray.

"I had the misfortune of finding the body. I was talking to a friend of mine and I was surprised. I told him: 'bro, I found my sister's body'. And then I pulled out my phone and called a police friend, then I prayed. That's what I felt like doing at the time and I prayed, and all I've done so far is pray," he says in the video published in March.

During the recording, he also spoke about the moment of the wake and said that he tried to stay strong to take care of his family. According to João Vitor, Poliana was his only sister and her death left him with a feeling of emptiness.
