MPMG denounces homicide committed for futile reasons and calls for reversing acquittal in motorcycle theft

The victim had completed high school, had no criminal record and had plans to move to Portugal with his uncle in the month following the crime, the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) reported this Monday (14).

According to the MPMG, the crime occurred when the three convicts were driving along an avenue in the city and saw the victim, who was accompanied by two teenage friends, each on a bicycle.

According to the complaint, an argument began between those involved, with an exchange of insults. The vehicle's occupants then returned towards the young man and continued to follow him at low speed.

"The argument continued and the defendants, still inside the vehicle, began to follow the victim at low speed. One of them, aged 24, pulled out a gun and fired shots at the young man. According to the expert report, the shots caused the victim's death while still at the scene.

After the crime, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the defendants mocked the victim, laughed at the situation and fled. They then stole a motorcycle from a city watchman and hid it on the farm of a relative of one of them.

"They then hid the car used in the murder at a friend's house and hid, for around three days, at the home of one of them. The revolver used in the crime was sold with the aim of getting rid of the weapon. Two of the defendants were convicted of stealing the motorcycle and one of them was acquitted."

The Public Prosecutor's Office reported that it appealed the decision to try to reverse the acquittal and obtain recognition of his participation in the robbery.

One of the convicts had already been held responsible for a triple robbery against two elderly people and a person with a physical disability. According to the MPMG, the victims were tied up and shot to death in the back of the head, and the perpetrator stole money from them. For this case, he was sentenced to 31 years in prison.

Regarding the trial held in Curvelo, the Public Prosecutor's Office highlighted that "the jurors recognized the qualifications pointed out by the MPMG: crime committed for a futile reason and using a resource that made the victim's defense difficult."

The MPMG also informed that the defendants must serve their sentences in an initial closed regime. The process is being carried out in secret from the courts.
