Woman arrested after setting fire to man in Minas Gerais city

According to the Military Police (PM), the man suffered burns to his arms, face and head. He was taken to a health unit in the city and, due to the severity of his injuries, he had to be transferred to a hospital in Uberaba.

The police were called around 4pm. Three witnesses said they saw the woman holding a PET bottle. According to reports, she approached the man, who was leaning against a car, threw the liquid on him and then set the victim on fire before leaving the scene without providing assistance.

According to the PM, while receiving care in the ambulance, despite having difficulty communicating, the man told the medical team that someone had set him on fire.

The woman was found by the police a few meters from the place where the man was set on fire. When approached, she presented different versions of what had happened. Initially, he stated that the victim had burned himself when trying to light a barbecue.

At another point, he said he was at a barbecue at a friend's house. According to the suspect, she and the victim went to her residence to get ethanol and make it easier to light the barbecue.

The woman reported that the man took the bottle with the liquid and tried to ingest the product as if it were cachaça. To show that it was not an alcoholic drink, she said she threw all the ethanol on the victim.

At that moment, according to suspicion, the man lit a cigarette, which started the flames. The woman said she ran out of fear that she would also get burned.

The pet bottle mentioned by the witnesses was found and seized. The woman was arrested and taken to the Civil Police station.
