Netanyahu discussed security meeting with opposition over alleged threat of foreign attack before elections

Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the meeting is expected to be held later today.

The news stated that the chiefs of defense institutions will attend the meeting to be held after Netanyahu's claim that "there are signs that an attack will be carried out on the country before the elections."

Opposition requests security briefing

On the other hand, after Netanyahu's statement, Yair Lapid, the main opposition leader in Israel's current parliament, announced that he had requested a security briefing in case the elections were at risk.

In response to Lapid's request, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office stated that Netanyahu, who stated that he held regular security update meetings with the opposition leader and the last one was held on September 14, instructed his military secretary to inform Lapid about the latest issues.

In response, Lapid noted that Netanyahu "talked about a threat that could disrupt the elections" and that in this case, a quadripartite meeting should be held in which the Prime Minister, the Director of the Israeli domestic intelligence service Shin-Bet (Shabak), the Chairman of the Central Election Committee and himself would attend.

Netanyahu claimed that there were preparations for an attack

Netanyahu, who fell behind in the opinion polls, argued that there were preparations for an external attack on his country before the general elections planned to be held on October 27 and that there were signs in this direction.

While Netanyahu did not share information about who would carry out the attack, the opposition considered the statement as a "political manoeuvre".
