New Swedish translation of the New Testament is released after 45 years

It has been 45 years since the last Swedish translation of the New Testament was published in 1981. Now a new version is presented where the language and wording have been revised to better reflect today's Swedish while the translation is close to the original texts.

In the Christian bookstore Nya Musik in Jönköping, they had prepared well for the day. And had organized an event, see in the clip above.

- We have had pre-orders for around 2,000 books, says David Bokinge, co-owner of the bookstore.

The Church of Sweden plans to decide during the church meeting in November 2026 if and when the translation may begin to be used in church services, which is expected to apply from the first Advent this year.
