Ordu City Hospital opened with a 3-year delay: Cost increased 25 times

Ordu City Hospital, whose foundation was laid in 2021 and was initially planned to be completed in 2023, admitted its first patient on September 19, 2026, after a delay of approximately three years.

According to the news of Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, the cost of the project, which was initially estimated as 878 million 629 thousand TL, increased to 23 billion 46 million 700 thousand TL during the construction process. Thus, the project cost increased approximately 25 times.

The inspection report on the construction process revealed the ground problems encountered in the hospital construction and their impact on the project schedule.

CRACKS AND MASS MOVEMENTS ON THE GROUND

According to the report, while the excavation work in the hospital construction continued, following the tunnel excavations started outside the project area, mass ground movements, cracks and settlements were observed both in and around the hospital parcel.

Due to the problems that arose, while additional work was carried out on the project, the contractor was given a time extension and the work was increased.

INCLINE REACHES UP TO 75 DEGREES

In the ground surveys carried out by experts, it was stated that the stability problems in the area where the hospital was built were due to more than one factor.

It was determined that the slope in the construction area reached up to 75 degrees in places, the upper part of the ground consisted of clayey structure suitable for landslides, and the lower part consisted of decomposed and fractured layers.

The report also noted that groundwater is close to the surface, and the inability to drain surface and rain water sufficiently reduces ground resistance.

ATTENTION DRAWN TO TUNNEL EXCAVATIONS

In addition to natural conditions, the report also discussed the effects of interventions during the construction process on the ground. It was stated that support measures were insufficient during the deep and gradual excavations in the hospital construction, which made the ground more sensitive.

It was stated that after the tunnel works near the construction site started, cracks and settlements were detected, and the vibrations resulting from the excavations accelerated the landslide movement.
