Özlem Şanver's statement about Berhan Şimşek violence: The part you didn't see was scarier

Speaking after the images of the moments when she was subjected to violence by Berhan Şimşek emerged, Özlem Şanver, her boyfriend of 9.5 years, talked about her experiences.

Şanver claimed that when he first appeared in the press, Şimşek called him and said, "Do you know, my customers have increased, women like violence."

Describing the moments of violence that are not included in the footage, Şanver said, "The part you didn't see was much more scary and heartbreaking," adding, "He chokes me, slaps me, breaks the television, throws the drunk coffee on the wall. These are not in the footage because the footage belongs to the external security camera."

Footage emerged of the moments when Berhan Şimşek, who was appointed as the "deputy chairman" by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed as the head of the CHP with the "absolute nullity" decision of the appeal, used violence against Özlem Şanver.

Özlem Şanver told Posta's Alev Gürsoy Cimin about what happened that day and what happened before.

Şanver stated that they had an argument about Şimşek's driver before the incident and said, "I was very angry and sad. When he came at me, I threw a plastic storage container. I didn't want to but he forced me, there were insults and swearing at that time, and they were all too humiliating and humiliating to describe here."

Şanver stated that the container he threw did not hit Şimşek and said:

"Do you think this could be the justification for the violence I witnessed? There is also a before. I see and hear a conversation he had with his driver from the camera footage. I say that too. I actually catch him because he swore. I say, 'Don't swear in vain, I already saw it.'"

Stating that the violence against him increased after Şimşek, Şanver explained the rest of the incident as follows:

"I throw the plastic storage container. It doesn't hit him, but he comes and hits me hard, hitting my shin. It hurt me so much and I screamed with that pain. He put me in. Do you think he said 'My dear' inside and caressed my cheek and kissed my forehead... The part you didn't see was much scarier and heartbreaking. He squeezed my throat, slapped me, broke the television, threw the drunk coffee on the wall. These are not in the footage because the footage belongs to the exterior security camera."

Şanver stated that violence is not new and said, "I was also subjected to violence in 2021. I have a battery report and complaint about this." Şanver said, "The level of violence has gradually increased in the last 2-3 years."

Şanver also rejected the allegations that he "conspired" against himself and wanted to discredit Şimşek:

"Never! But I wanted everyone to know what this man is. We have come to this day with silence. We have had this camera in our house for about nine years. I have never locked myself in a room and recorded things when I was afraid before. Why would I do such a thing to the man I love, with whom I am in love? Why should I collect images of the person I lived with for years in order to discredit him?"

Şanver said that he was also exposed to economic violence during the relationship. Stating that Şimşek expressed her expenses and the money he gave her, Şanver said, "If he counts what he did, even the pocket money he gave, then you see something else, not love. As ridiculous as it is for me to say to him, 'I cooked for you, I acted as a woman,' it is very hurtful for him to count the pocket money he gave. Actually, I was subjected to economic violence."

Şanver explained his economic situation as follows:

"He literally condemned me to pennilessness. He was jealous and didn't want me to work, and he also left me broke. He expected me to live on 20 thousand TL a month. He was constantly beating me up about it. He was a person who loved money very much."

Explaining the reason why he continued his relationship for 9.5 years, Şanver said, "On the other hand, you are deceiving yourself: 'He is actually a good person, he will get better.' Berhan is a very good actor, he plays well in real life too."

"This is a shame that does not belong to me. It is not a proud thing for a woman to see herself this way. It is a shame," said Şanver and said:

"I used to see his ex-girlfriend's Tweets. 'Who is this woman?' When I asked, they said something like 'He's mentally ill, he won't let me go'. Apparently, they lived in the same house with the woman for 3-4 years and she was also subjected to violence. I'm not the only one, but he's scared. I became a voice for other women. They were afraid of something, they were afraid. They may have had their own reasons, but they called me and said, "We are relieved." "When it first appeared in the press two months ago, he called me later and said, 'You know, my clientele has increased, women like violence.'"
