Palermo, schools closed in case of red weather alert for the heat

In the event of a climate alert due to the 'red dot' heat in Palermo, educational activities will be suspended and municipal school buildings will be temporarily closed. This is foreseen in a directive signed today by the mayor Roberto Lagalla and sent to the heads of the city's education and to the Superintendent of Studies.

An exception will be made for institutions equipped with adequate and functioning air conditioning systems, subject to certification from the school directors. Schools will be able to activate distance learning to ensure continuity of the calendar.

The Municipality will also prepare a plan to strengthen the air conditioning systems in the long term and identify temporary solutions against the heat.

"The safety and well-being of our students, their families and all school staff are an absolute priority - says Mayor Lagalla - faced with the possibility of extreme climatic events, we cannot afford to wait for the emergency to manifest itself: we must be ready to act first, with clear and timely decisions.

It is a responsible choice that puts the safety of those who experience school every day at the center."
