In Pendik, Istanbul, on May 18, 2025, Ömer Faruk Ballı (26), a nurse in a private hospital, allegedly hit Işıl Öykü Dinç (14), who was trying to cross the road with the car he was driving. Dinç died at the scene. It was requested that Ballı be punished with a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years for the crime of 'causing death by negligence'. Ballı, who was arrested on May 19, 2025, was released on May 21, 2025, with an international travel ban and a signature judicial decision, taking into account the possibility that the criminal nature could change in favor of the defendant.
Speaking to Hürriyet before the 4th hearing, which will be held on September 11, Işıl Öykü Dinç's father, Yunus Dinç, said: "When the police handed over the belongings, they told us, 'The driver was a woman, did not stop, ran away and surrendered to the police station an hour later. When we went to the police station and checked the accident report, Ömer Faruk Ballı's name was written on the driver's seat. Then, while we thought Ballı was in prison, it turned out that he was caught and released within the same week." Because we don't know how the incident happened, the helmet camera footage of a motorcycle driver emerged.
'OUR PROBLEM IS NOT MONEY, BUT JUSTICE'
Afterwards, the other party's lawyer called our lawyers and said, 'Insurance will give you some money anyway, let's give you this money without waiting and let's settle the case.' When we heard these words and lashed out, this time Işıl filed a written petition saying, "Işıl was already someone who loved being famous and was suicidal, so she jumped in front of our car" and submitted it to the court file. Our concern is never about money, we want to find out how Öykü died and for the suspects to receive the punishment they deserve. These people got married 42 days after my daughter died, they were engaged on the day of the accident. They organize entertainment with drums and pipes and share the images on social media.
We have been declaring that the judicial process should be transparent since day one. No one can convince me that the mobile phones in that area are broken. They slander my daughter and portray her as if she is interested in suicide. I've been saying since the first day that if my daughter has any faults, I'll take care of her, she's already buried in the ground. But I will not leave his justice to anyone. After the trial in April, new eyewitnesses emerged in June. These are the witnesses who saw that the driver was a woman, saw how the driver was changed after the accident, and described it down to the clothes they were wearing. Now, let this process enter a legally orderly path so that we can mourn our loss as a family.
After the first hearing, we started receiving threatening messages via international numbers. We didn't pay attention to these at first, but there were so many calls that I opened it last to see what they would say. They started swearing at me, my daughter and my family. They made speeches such as 'We will kill you the same way we killed your daughter, close this case.' These calls didn't just stop with me. They also started searching for family members. They call my mother-in-law at night in January. They say, 'Just like we killed your grandchild, we will cut off your daughter's head and bury it next to your grandchild' etc. 4-5 days after this incident, my mother-in-law had a clot in her brain. Unfortunately, we lost my mother-in-law after she was in intensive care for 3 months. We put him next to his grandchild.
'YOU CANNOT BE THIS BAD'
We want nothing but justice for our daughter. Psychological pressure is put on us. You can't be this bad, this much evil can't happen. Of course, death is painful, but we are talking about a 14-year-old child. They are working together to obscure this file. A lawyer enters the file, 3 prosecutors change at once, there are no mobile phones, there is no evidence, there is a dead body and the defendant is being tried without arrest. What did you see that we couldn't see? These people are free. They prepared the indictment in 1 day. A 14-year-old child died. How did you prepare this indictment? Even in the footage from the helmet camera, the voice can be heard saying 'Woman hit woman'. They see these as insufficient. Also, we learned later, and I will call it a bitter coincidence, that the husband and wife who killed my daughter were working at the hospital where my daughter was born.
