GDP in the North region records an increase of 0.2% in the 2nd quarter of 2026

The survey, entitled “GDP performance in the North region in the 2nd quarter of 2026”, was signed by economists Juliana Trece and Claudio Considera, from FGV IBRE. The analysis is part of an experimental initiative by the institute's National Accounts Center (NCN). The estimates were made based on available data and compared with information from the IBGE Regional Accounts System (SCR), which has data until 2023.

In the regional panorama, most states in the North region registered GDP growth in relation to the same period of the previous year.

Roraima had an increase of 2.9%, above the national average of 2.0%. Amazonas (-0.8%) and Pará (-0.2%) fell. As the two states represent more than 60% of the region's GDP, the result contributed to leaving growth in the North close to stability, with an increase of 0.2%. See the graph below:

According to the study, Amazonas' result was mainly influenced by the decline in the state's industry, with the manufacturing industry being cited as a negative highlight.

The transformation industry is the economic sector responsible for converting raw materials into new products, and ranges from the production of food and beverages to electronic, chemical, vehicle and metallurgical products.

In the context of the research, among the activities that registered a reduction are the manufacture of computer equipment, electronic and optical products, machines and other equipment.

The state's industry numbers were highlighted as the main negative result among the state economies analyzed. See the graph below:
