Poland and AVEC demand regular inspections of the Brazilian system for monitoring antibiotics in poultry

It is hard to believe that a powerful sector will suddenly change its current practices - says Dariusz Goszczyński, president of the National Poultry Council - Chamber of Commerce, in an interview with an RMF FM journalist.

The Polish industry does not question the EU audit, but it has doubts about how detailed and thorough the control was. He points out that the Brazilian side knew that its access to the EU market depended on the audit result and could present solutions "on paper" to demonstrate compliance with EU requirements.

For this reason, Polish producers want it to not end with just one audit. They demand regular, in-depth inspections of the Brazilian system of supervision over the use of antibiotics and detailed tests of poultry meat imported to the European Union.

For Poland, the issue is particularly important because the domestic poultry sector is one of the largest in Europe and competes with Brazilian meat on the EU market.

AVEC: Regular check-ups are needed

Similar demands for further audits are made by the European poultry industry organization AVEC. "We are glad that EU requirements have led to specific changes in Brazil," Paul Henri Lava, deputy secretary general of AVEC, told RMF FM.

However, the system is new, so - according to Lava - regular inspections are needed on farms and in feed production to check whether the changes are actually applied on a daily basis, and not just for audit purposes.
