Leonel Brizola Bridge will have a partial closure for vehicles from Tuesday in Campos

Measure will be adopted from Monday to Friday, during busiest times, to create exclusive space for pedestrians and cyclists; The operation will be experimental for an indefinite period.

The Leonel Brizola Bridge, in Campos, will have a partial vehicle ban from this Tuesday (8). The experimental measure will operate during busy times.

From 5am to 9am, the lane towards Centro-Guarus closes to vehicles and serves pedestrians and cyclists. From 4pm to 7pm, the closure is in reverse.

The experimental change aims to reduce inconvenience caused by the closure of the Barcelos Martins Bridge. Emergency vehicles identified in response will have guaranteed passage.

The Leonel de Moura Brizola Bridge, which connects the region of Guarus to the Center of Campos dos Goytacazes, will be partially closed to vehicles from next Tuesday (8). The measure was announced by Campos City Hall and will be adopted from Monday to Friday, during the busiest times, early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

In the morning, from 5am to 9am, the lane towards Centro-Guarus will be closed to vehicles and will be reserved exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. During this period, vehicles will be able to circulate normally in the direction of Guarus-Centro.

In the afternoon, from 4pm to 7pm, the operation will be reversed. The lane towards Guarus-Centro will be closed to vehicles and intended for pedestrians and cyclists. Vehicular traffic will be maintained in the Centro-Guarus direction.

Outside these times, vehicle traffic will continue as normal in both directions. The measure will not be applied on weekends.

According to City Hall, the change was adopted to reduce the inconvenience caused by the closure of the Barcelos Martins Bridge, which has been closed since February 28 after structural damage caused by the flood of the Paraíba do Sul River.

Since then, there has been an increase in the flow of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists on the other bridges that connect Campos to Guarus, including General Dutra, Alair Ferreira, Saturnino de Brito and Leonel de Moura Brizola.

The strategy defined by City Hall is to close the lane to vehicles in the opposite direction to the predominant flow of each period.

As a result, pedestrians and cyclists will have an exclusive lane during busy times, while vehicles continue to travel in the direction of greatest demand.

The City Hall also informed that, outside the times set out in the ordinance, the movement of cyclists and motorcyclists on the bridge continues to be prohibited.

Emergency vehicles will have free passage

Even during closed hours, ambulances, police vehicles, Municipal Civil Guard and Fire Department vehicles, as well as other public aid vehicles, will have guaranteed passage.

The release will be valid for identified vehicles, responding to incidents and with sound and light signaling equipment activated.

Operation will be monitored

The change will be experimental and have an indefinite period. During this period, City Hall's technical teams will monitor the flow of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists and assess the impacts of the operation on mobility and road safety.

The Municipal Traffic and Transport Institute (IMTT) will be responsible for signaling and technical monitoring of traffic. The Municipal Secretariat of Intelligence and Operational Control will monitor the event via video surveillance.

The Municipal Civil Guard and the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Public Order will monitor and regulate traffic.

The closure begins on Tuesday (8), after the advance period provided for in the Brazilian Traffic Code for communicating road closures.
