Artesp opens a case against Consórcio Bus+ for irregularities on intercity lines in Campinas

The Transport Agency of the State of São Paulo (Artesp) initiated administrative proceedings against the Bus+ Consortium, responsible for intercity bus lines in the region of Campinas (SP), after identifying irregularities in the operation during inspections carried out since March 2026.

According to the agency, the procedure may result in the expiration of the contract, a measure that foresees the loss of the concession. When contacted by g1, the Bus+ Consortium declined to comment on the case.

The procedure takes place amid a series of complaints from passengers in the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC) about delays, overcrowding, reduced schedules and operational failures on lines managed by Consórcio Bus+.

According to Artesp, the inspection inspected 100% of the fleet and monitored indicators such as vehicle conditions, adherence to schedules and line capacity.

"With the identification of irregularities, an administrative process was initiated due to breach of contract and failure to present an improvement plan by the consortium. This process could result in forfeiture, according to the contractual provisions and the penalty annex", he says, in a note.

On its official website, the Bus+ Consortium highlights that the fleet of 408 buses makes 130 thousand trips per month along the RMC corridors, serving, on average, 3.2 million passengers.

Passengers boarding at urban terminals in the Iguatemi and Dom Pedro shopping mall region, in Campinas (SP), bound for Hortolândia (SP) and Sumaré (SP), have reported recurring failures on the metropolitan bus lines that pass through the area.

Complaints are related to delays and even the lack of public transport, especially at night.

"We want to get home early, we want to rest and we have this problem on the bus. And it's already recurring, from the beginning of the month until a little earlier we already have this problem", said Felipe Martins, assistant manager of a store in Iguatemi that depends on public transport.

Between March and August this year, on line 654 alone, which connects the Sumaré Bus Terminal to Shopping Iguatemi, passing through Hortolândia, 840 problems were reported.

Of these, 94% are related to the absence or delay of buses. The data is from Artesp.

Regarding this complaint, the Bus+ Consortium said in a note sent to EPTV, an affiliate of Rede Globo, that the cause of the problem is the lack of drivers and that it is creating a new program to train drivers.
