The Pavia Prosecutor's Office once again closes the investigation into Andrea Sempio for the murder of Chiara Poggi

The Pavia Prosecutor's Office has closed, for the second time, the new investigations against Andrea Sempio, accused of Chiara Poggi's crime which occurred on 13 August 2007 in Garlasco. After having ordered additional investigations at the end of May, following an initial closure of the investigations and defense consultancies, the prosecutors have now filed new documents including new consultancies. And they served another notice of the conclusion of the investigation. In particular, the technical consultants of the Pavia Prosecutor's Office "have filed a note on the dimensions of a size 42 Frau model shoe which is compatible with the measurements of Andrea Sempio's foot", as the prosecutor Fabio Napoleone writes in a long statement, in which he summarizes all the results of the additional investigations and also refers to the now well-known imprint of a shoe with a dot sole found at the crime scene. Alberto Stasi, Chiara Poggi's boyfriend at the time, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder: in June Stasi obtained probationary custody from social services.

The closure of the new investigations and what could happen now

Today, therefore, the Pavia Prosecutor's Office filed the notice of conclusion of the investigations, unchanged compared to the one presented in May but with attached the new consultations ordered by the prosecutors. The investigators, in fact, had 18 months available to carry out all the additional investigations and the deadline for completing the investigation, also indicated by the prosecutor Fabio Napoleone in a note at the end of May, fell today, 28 September. Probably, today's notice on the conclusion of the investigation precedes the request for trial for Sempio, on charges of murder aggravated by cruelty and hatred towards the victim.

The new consultancies

Among the new consultancies there is the one Cristina Cattaneo took care of and which concerns Sempio's anthropometric measurements. The second, which Giampaolo Iuliano and Nicola Caprioli dealt with, is on the dot prints left by a shoe on the floor of the house where the victim was killed. The third, entrusted to Carlo Previderé, is on the DNA found on Chiara Poggi's nails.

Psychiatric consultation suspended

On the consultancy entrusted by the prosecutors to the psychiatrist Roberto Catanesi, of a psychiatric and personological nature, in the press release the prosecutor Napoleone specified that the expert "sent a note in which he declared that he had analytically examined all the elements made available by the investigators and coming from the investigations carried out, of various nature". But the same psychiatrist specified: "Data of undoubted interest have emerged which however - as already clarified orally - necessarily require - for an answer to the questions that can be said to be methodologically adequate to the context of the investigation - comparison and confirmation with data coming from a direct clinical examination on the person of the suspect". For this reason, given that Andrea Sempio refused to undergo the interview, "the consultant stated that he did not have sufficient elements to formulate answers to the questions that could be considered adequately motivated and methodologically flawless. The investigations by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office on Andrea Sempio's capacity, therefore, are currently suspended".
