Petrópolis education professionals go on strike for the second time in 15 days

The movement began on Tuesday (23) and was accompanied by demonstrations. This is the second strike in the category in less than 15 days.

On September 10th, professionals had already carried out a 24-hour strike, also accompanied by an event in the city center.

According to the union, the new strike had already been announced if there was no agreement between the category and the City Hall.

Among the main demands are the salary adjustment, the increase in food vouchers and the correction of the pay scale for some functions. The entity states that some of these values ​​are below the national minimum.

"We cannot accept this. Mayor wanting to pay an adjustment in January 2027 that is already delayed. Furthermore, there are professionals who receive payments below the national minimum, which is unacceptable", stated Rose Silveira, representative of the State Union of Education Professionals.

Workers also demand better working conditions in municipal units, including improvements in the food offered to students and school professionals.

On Tuesday (23), the event was held in front of the Municipal Department of Education and the City Council. This Wednesday (24), the gathering took place at Praça Dom Pedro II, in the Center. The professionals then marched through the streets of the region and ended the protest in front of City Hall.

In a statement, Petrópolis City Hall reported that it was surprised to receive the category's decision to maintain the strike status and carry out a new strike.

According to the municipality, during a meeting held earlier this week, proposals were presented to meet the demands of education professionals. The municipal administration also highlighted that it remains open to dialogue with employees.
