A breakthrough after many years in the murder of a 73-year-old woman in Piła. The grandson was arrested

The murder of a 73-year-old woman took place in June 2008 in Piła (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The elderly woman lived alone, was sick and very cautious - she did not open the door to strangers.

On June 3, the woman's daughter, concerned about the lack of contact with her mother, asked a neighbor to check the apartment. The body of a 73-year-old woman was found inside. The woman was bound and gagged, and an autopsy showed that she died as a result of extensive craniocerebral injuries caused by repeated blows with a blunt instrument.

The investigation has reached a dead end

Despite securing numerous traces at the crime scene and conducting a detailed investigation, the perpetrator could not be identified.

The proceedings were discontinued due to the failure to detect the perpetrator. At the end of 2023, police officers from the Poznań X-Files together with a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Poznań returned to the case.

A breakthrough thanks to modern technology

Years later, the files and biological traces secured in 2008 were re-analyzed. Modern, highly sensitive genetic testing methods turned out to be crucial. The following were examined in detail, among others: fragments of adhesive tape that bound the victim.

The obtained DNA profile clearly identified the murdered woman's grandson, Damian B., who was 26 years old at the time of the crime and is currently 44 years old. The man had a previous criminal record.

Damian B. was arrested and charged with murder. By court decision, he was placed in custody. During interrogation, he pleaded not guilty to the crime he was accused of. He faces life imprisonment.
