Mataripe refinery reduces gasoline price by 11.3% after Provisional Measure

The Mataripe Refinery, the second largest in the country, announced that it had reduced the price of gasoline by around 11.3%. The refinery is located in São Francisco do Conde, Metropolitan Region of Salvador, and accounts for 42% of the Northeast Region's supply.

Like other refineries in the country, Mataripe sells gasoline A to fuel distributors, who make the mandatory ethanol blend, transforming it into gasoline C that is sold at gas stations.

When updating the sales price of gasoline A to distributors, the company informs that the new values ​​incorporate the discounts from Provisional Measure (MP) 1,358, published by the federal government to allow the subsidy (a type of reimbursement to refineries) of the cost of fuel, which increased with the war in Iran. The MP determines a subsidy of R$0.44 per liter of gasoline.

With the MP discount, gasoline in Mataripe goes from R$3.93 to R$3.49. The value is above that charged by Petrobras, currently at R$2.61 per liter.

These prices are not the final values ​​at the pump, which still include taxes, freight, margin and profit from distributors and resellers, in addition to the cost of mixing with ethanol.

Former Landulpho Alves

Mataripe accounts for 14% of Brazil's refining capacity and 80% of Bahia's supply. The structure can refine around 302 thousand barrels of oil per day.

The refinery belongs to Acelen, a company controlled by the investment fund Mubadala Capital, from the United Arab Emirates.

Mubadala purchased the refinery from Petrobras in 2021, when the facility was called Landulpho Alves.

Of the ten largest refineries in the country, it is the only one that does not belong to Petrobras, which has already expressed interest in repurchasing the unit.

The largest refinery in the country is Replan, in Paulínia, in the interior of São Paulo, which belongs to Petrobras.
