The SPD in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is clearing the way for coalition negotiations with the Greens and the Left. It could start in just a few days. But the yes from the others is still pending.

The SPD in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has cleared the way for negotiations with the Greens and the Left to form a joint government. “I am very pleased that the SPD Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has decided this evening that we want to start coalition negotiations,” said Schwesig in Güstrow. The state executive board, state party council and state parliamentary group had agreed.

If the Greens and the Left also agree to start coalition negotiations, it should start on Monday at 11 a.m., explained Schwesig. The positions of ministers will be discussed at the very end. “Now it’s all about content,” she said. Schwesig was satisfied with the exploratory discussions of the past few weeks: “They were very good discussions.”

Party leaders for negotiations

After the conclusion of the exploratory talks on Friday, the negotiators from the SPD, the Left and the Greens recommended that their party committees begin coalition negotiations. The state executive committee of the Left wants to decide in the evening - the Greens will decide at a small party conference on Saturday in Rostock.

If they agree, the northeast is heading towards the first red-red-green state government in the state's history. The state parliament meets for its constituent session on October 20th.
