Russian RIS network accused of global killings and US recruitment; US House approves resolution on war in Iran

As the US Department of Justice reported, the RIS Network, active "since at least 2024", "conspired to carry out and has carried out attacks and assassinations throughout the world, including in the United States". The network has focused on "Russian dissidents and defectors and, more recently, on nations perceived as allies of Ukraine." Recently members of the network allegedly "attempted to recruit several individuals in the United States to carry out surveillance and assassination activities in the country."

Three of the defendants are high-level members of the Ris Network: Yuri Kharameev, Kirill Khrameev and Oemis Romagoz Durruthy. The other two members included in the indictment are Yaidel Delgado Suarez and Eduardo Castro, who worked together to recruit US residents to surveil and attempt to kill a prominent US-based Russian dissident. “The defendants allegedly operated as part of a global murder network that extended into the United States,” said Deputy Attorney General John A. Eisenberg. "We will reject any attempt by foreign intelligence services to operate freely in our country," he reiterated.

The US House approves resolution to end the war in Iran

Meanwhile, on the front of the war with Iran, the Republican-majority House of the United States has approved a measure requiring Donald Trump to end the war or request authorization from Congress. It is the third time that the Chamber has asked the US president to stop the conflict with symbolic measures. The resolution passed with 220 votes in favor and 204 against, 49 days before the midterm elections. It is unclear whether the Seanto will consider the measure before November. A similar resolution was passed by the House in July but has not yet been considered by the Senate.
