The Riksdag gathers for the election of the Speaker and Magdalena Andersson returns the probe mission

At 11 a.m. on Monday, the Riksdag gathers to first hold a roll call and then vote in the election for Speaker and Deputy Speakers.

Already this weekend, the Tidö parties announced that they want Andreas Norlén to continue. Information that the Left Party could also stand behind the sitting Speaker was confirmed on Sunday evening.

- It may take a long time before Sweden gets a government, then we think we need a fixed point in the Riksdag. Therefore, we will cast our vote for Andreas Norlén, said the Left Party's vice-chairman Ida Gabrielsson in SVT's "Agenda".

Hours before the vote on Monday, Magdalena Andersson announces that she is handing back the probe assignment.

- Later today I will inform the new speaker that I am handing back the probe mission, says the S-leader at a press conference.

The decision is taken against the background that the Left Party intends to support Anderas Norlén. Andersson believes that this led to a new constellation of left-wing parties and moderates in the Riksdag.

- As the parliamentary situation has developed since the election, it is reasonable that the constellation that has now settled in the speaker election can move on and try to agree on the government issue as well.

In today's presidential election, the Social Democrats will still put forward a candidate as a matter of principle.

- But then we will nominate the candidate who will be our candidate for deputy speaker also as a candidate in the speaker election, Andersson says without revealing who the candidate is.
