Vehicle thefts fall 97.9% in São Paulo between January and July 2026

The highlight is vehicle theft, which showed a reduction of 97.9%: there were 493 incidents between January and July 2016, compared to 25 in the same period this year.

The drop also appears in other important indicators. Thefts in general fell by 85.5%, from 2,445 cases to 355. Vehicle thefts fell by 71.6%, from 1,308 to 371 incidents.

Homicides also showed a significant reduction, of 56.1%, from 41 records in the first seven months of 2016 to 18 in 2026. In thefts in general, the reduction was 22.8%, with 2,795 occurrences this year, compared to 3,622 in 2016.

The numbers reflect the evolution of the municipality's security indicators and the integrated action of the security forces. The survey is based on official data released by the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo.
