The Russian authorities have announced this Sunday the downing of more than 250 drones launched by the Ukrainian Army against various points in the country, without information on victims or damage, within the framework of the war unleashed in February 2022 by the invasion order signed by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
Up to fourteen Russian regions, the annexed Crimean peninsula and the Black and Azov seas were attacked. In addition, according to the Telegram channel Astra, unmanned devices caused a fire at a refinery of the oil company Rosneft, the largest in the country, in the Ryazan region, which is less than 200 kilometers from Moscow. The governor, Pável Málkov, confirmed the fire in one of the companies in the region, without specifying.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated in a message on social networks that its anti-aircraft defense systems have intercepted 258 devices during the last twelve hours over several regions of the country, as well as over the waters of the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea and the Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014.
Meanwhile, three people have died in the last 24 hours in the border region of Belgorod, the most affected by the war, in more than one hundred attacks with howitzers and drones by the Ukrainian army, according to authorities.
In turn, seven trains with passengers had to be stopped after fragments from a drone hit the locomotive of a train in the southern region of Rostov, as confirmed by Governor Yuri Sliusar. As a result of the attacks, four people were injured, two of them minors.
Russia and Ukraine stop attacks on capitals
Russia and Ukraine agreed on Saturday to cease attacks on their respective capitals for 72 hours, coinciding with the presence of White House mediators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who must hold consultations this Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to the Kremlin, the meeting held on Saturday with Putin was "timely" and Moscow maintains its commitment to the US to jointly seek a negotiated solution to the current conflict. Furthermore, he confirmed, as US President Donald Trump had anticipated, that the emissaries presented a proposal to advance the peaceful settlement, although neither party ever revealed what those ideas were.
More than a hundred Russian drones
For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force has indicated that Russian troops have launched 108 drones against the country in the last few hours, before ensuring that 82 have been destroyed. On the other hand, it has confirmed impacts in eleven locations and has warned that "the attack continues, given that there are still drones in the airspace."
However, impacts were recorded in 11 places, including in Zaporizhzhia, where one person died, according to the Air Force and the State Emergency Service (DSNS), as well as the fall of downed drones and their remains in another seven.
As a result of the impact, a 74-year-old man died, according to the DSNS on Telegram. In addition, two women and a man were also injured in the Russian attack.
On the other hand, in two multi-story buildings, fires broke out in an apartment and on a balcony. Emergency crews evacuated 16 residents from one of the buildings. And, in two other places, the fire affected the roof of a private home, a garage and a car.
However, in the last few hours there have been no attacks against the capitals of Russia and Ukraine, Moscow and kyiv, respectively, within the framework of a new movement of United States envoys to try to promote a peace process to end the conflict.
