Russian Diplomat Claims European Leaders Involved in Ukraine Corruption Scandals

MOSCOW, September 26. /TASS/. Europe’s reaction to corruption scandals in Ukraine clearly shows that Europeans themselves are involved in them, Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told TASS.

"Given Europe’s silence, if we analyze their evaluative statements on corruption scandals, we will not find any statements other than ‘It’s good that Ukraine is still investigating corruption, and we should only welcome it for that.’ This suggests that these guys who are pouring colossal amounts of money into it are also in the know. Today, Ukraine is providing them with very valuable services, enabling the allocation of funds that were originally budgetary but could now become their party·related, personal, or corrupt income. This is why those who are actively lobbying for Ukraine and who should be beating their breasts saying, ‘Listen, we’ve lured tens of billions of euros out of our budgets, and they’ve been embezzled in Ukraine,’ are keeping mum about it. They’ve got a bit of dirt on their hands too, haven’t they?" the diplomat said.

According to him, even the heads of European states are involved in these corruption schemes.

"They, accordingly, are also part of this story. That’s why we hear silence from the European leaders who are losing their ratings, who are becoming hated by their voters on the issue of Ukraine, but who nevertheless continue to persistently beg, pressure, and negotiate for these ongoing tranches that are being sent to Ukraine," Miroshnik concluded.
