Heavy rain and landslide hit Sakarya: Houses are underground, entrances to 2 neighborhoods are closed

The intermittent downpour that has been going on in the city since the previous day has a negative impact on life. The house, which had a partial collapse as a result of the landslide caused by yesterday's heavy rain in Karasu district's Karasu district, became unusable.

In addition, in the neighborhood where 3 more houses were affected, soil and rock fragments carried by the water covered the buildings. Mud layers formed on the floors of the houses whose ground floors were flooded.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and Karasu Municipality teams are carrying out excavation cleaning work in the neighborhood.

"WE STARTED EXCAVATION REMOVAL WORKS"

Darkdere Headman Yılmaz Koca said that they experienced a major disaster and there was damage in the neighborhood.

Explaining that the flood brought stones and soil from the mountain to the neighborhood, Koca said, "One of our houses collapsed and 4-5 of our houses were flooded. Thank God, there was no loss of life. Our state is with us. We have started excavation work. May God not harm our state. The state and the nation will overcome this, hand in hand." he said.

Stating that citizens are expecting help from the state regarding the damaged houses, Koca said, "We received excessive rainfall. As a result, there were landslides in some places, and stones and soil came with the stream water in some places." he said.

THE ROAD TO 2 NEIGHBORHOODS IS CLOSED

Due to the rain, a landslide occurred in the Doğançay location of the Sakarya-Bilecik highway in Geyve district. Due to the landslide, the connection road of the D-650 highway, which provides access to Doğançay and Maksudiye neighborhoods from the Bilecik direction, was closed. While it was not possible to enter two neighborhoods from this direction, teams were dispatched to the area upon notice. While gendarmerie teams took security measures in the region, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, SASKİ and State Hydraulic Works (DSI) teams started working to open the road to transportation with work machines.
