Yes Tav: demonstration against violence in Turin after the attacks on construction sites

"Today we say no to violence. Violence cannot be conceived as a means of political action." This was stated by Mino Giachino, promoter of the Sì Tav event underway in Turin, which is attended by around two hundred people. In the first demonstration for the Turin-Lyon, in 2018, over 30,000 people took to the streets, the following year around 20,000.

"The moment has changed, in the sense that in 2018 the TAV was at risk, because for the first time there was a government that had a majority in Parliament and could have blown up the TAV.

Today we are in a different situation. Today we had a very violent attack, never seen before, on the 25th of July", he says. Giachino refers to the attacks on the Turin-Lyon construction sites in Val di Susa. "There is someone who doesn't understand that that risks being proof of what could happen when they open the construction site in the Susa plain, when instead of there being 50 workers there will be 1000".

"So today we say no to violence. Violence cannot be conceived as a means of political action and the fact that some magistrate has, so to speak, allowed or considered acts of sabotage as normal is very serious", adds Mino Giachino.

"In the democracy born from the Resistance with the republican Constitution, violence is absolutely not admissible.

Then there are no enemies, there are political adversaries. I think one way, you think another. But it ends there. This is democracy. Of course, it was no coincidence that De Gasperi said that diversity is an asset", concludes Giachino.
