According to the statement made by the Zero Waste Foundation, the zero waste vision put forward under the leadership of Emine Erdoğan, Founder of the Zero Waste Movement, President of the United Nations Zero Waste High-Level Personalities Advisory Board and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, strengthens the understanding that waste is a resource that produces economic and environmental value when managed correctly.
The Zero Waste Movement, which started in Türkiye in 2017, is a transformation movement that transcends borders and supports sustainable production and consumption with the goals of increasing resource efficiency, preventing waste and recycling waste into the economy.
In line with this understanding, a strategic cooperation protocol will be signed between the Zero Waste Foundation and Türkiye's global flag carrier THY in the fields of zero waste, sustainable aviation, circular economy and combating climate change.
The collaboration, which will bring together the Zero Waste Foundation's stakeholder network, awareness and communication capacity, and THY's global power and operational know-how in the aviation industry, aims to take pioneering steps in the field of sustainable aviation.
THE AIM IS TO PREVENT AND REDUCE WASTE IN AVIATION OPERATIONS
Within the scope of the prepared cooperation protocol, comprehensive studies will be implemented on a national and international scale to increase resource efficiency in aviation operations, prevent and reduce waste generation, manage cabin and passenger-related waste, prevent food waste and reduce carbon footprint.
Within the framework of cooperation, joint studies will be carried out in important platforms such as the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), hosted by Türkiye, and the international Zero Waste Forum organized by the Zero Waste Foundation.
While it is aimed to share good practices and raise global awareness in the fields of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), operational efficiency, emission reduction and circular economy, projects aiming to bring zero waste awareness and sustainable living culture to large masses will be implemented.
INFORMATIVE CONTENT, VIDEOS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS WILL BE SHARED ON THY'S SELECTED FLIGHTS
In order to convey zero waste awareness and sustainable living culture to large masses, awareness activities will be carried out among passengers with informative content, videos and announcements on THY's selected flights and digital communication channels.
In addition, technical workshops and joint organizations will be held with the participation of industry stakeholders, public institutions, academics and international organizations, where circular economy and waste management issues in aviation will be discussed.
The collaboration between the Zero Waste Foundation and THY aims to contribute to Türkiye's green transformation and 2053 Net Zero Emission targets by bringing together environmental sustainability, knowledge, awareness and global impact on the same ground.
