Boat Accident in Sinop: One Police Officer Found Dead, Another Still Wanted

The incident took place in the evening on the beach of Lala village.

Allegedly, police officers who were friends O.G.Y. and N.Ş. went to sea by boat while they were on leave.

The boat with two police officers on board began to drift towards the shore due to the effect of the waves due to engine failure.

After a while, the boat got out of control and capsized, while O.G.Y., who was on the boat. and N.Ş. fell into the sea. Upon notice, gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region.

A PERSON'S BODY WITHOUT BOUCHES WAS FOUND, THE MISSING PERSON IS BEING SEARCHED

O.G.Y.'s lifeless body was found during the search and rescue operations carried out at sea by the Gendarmerie teams, the Marine Police and the Coast Guard boat. While O.G.Y.'s body is being brought to the shore, the teams are continuing their search efforts to find the other person lost at sea.

In the written statement made by Sinop Governorship regarding the issue, the following statements were made:

"In the evening hours of September 30, 2026, information was received that a boat with two of our citizens on board had capsized off the coast of Sinop Merkez Yalı Village. Upon the notice, teams from the Coast Guard Command, Marine Police and Gendarmerie Command were dispatched to the region; search and rescue efforts were immediately initiated in order to find and save our citizens. Within the scope of the studies carried out, it was understood that the victims in the notification in question were two police officers working at the Sinop Provincial Police Department. Our police officer O.G.Y., one of the casualties, was picked up by the teams. "He was taken to the shore and transferred to Sinop Atatürk State Hospital. Despite all the interventions made at the hospital, our police officer could not be saved and he lost his life. Search and rescue efforts to find the other missing police officer, N.Ş., are continuing uninterruptedly under the coordination of the Coast Guard Command's air support, Marine Police and Gendarmerie teams."
