Slow Horses: Apple TV+ renews the series for an eighth season

Slow Horses, the acclaimed spy TV series starring Gary Oldman will return with six new episodes, inspired by the ninth novel in Mick Herron's literary saga.

The show has been renewed for an eighth season by Apple TV+. The news comes after the series won the Emmy Awards in the category dedicated to best direction for a drama series. The new cycle will consist of six episodes and will take inspiration from Clown Town, the ninth book of the Slough House saga written by Mick Herron.

Gary Oldman will return to play Jackson Lamb, the gruff but brilliant MI5 agent in charge of a team of spies considered unreliable. The actor was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead in a Drama Series.

The return of Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner

The new season will see Jackson Lamb face off once again with Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas. According to the synopsis, the two will face their most explosive clash.

After a failed attempt to blackmail the group of agents, Taverner will go on the offensive, forcing Lamb to investigate one of MI5's darkest secrets and try to put an end to the story once and for all.

The production

“Slow Horses continues to captivate audiences around the world, and I'm thrilled that Jackson Lamb and his band of misfits will return for an eighth season,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, international productions, Apple TV+. “Their caustic approach to the high-voltage world of espionage is absolutely unique.”

The series is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films, a company belonging to the Mediawan group. Executive producers include Gary Oldman, Mick Herron, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Douglas Urbanski, Adam Randall, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, Billy Bowring and Helen Gregory.

Ben Vanstone will adapt the novel for television and will also serve as executive producer. Adam Randall will return to direct.
