Polls in Brazil: Lula's lead over Flávio Bolsonaro is reducing

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, from the left, remains in the lead in the polls ahead of the October elections, but his lead over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, from the right, has narrowed, according to the latest survey by the Quaest polling agency.

In a hypothetical runoff, Lula would get 43% of the vote against 40% for the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, compared to 44% against 39% recorded in the previous poll on August 5. Considering the margin of error of two percentage points, the result is therefore in fact in balance.

In the first round Lula would collect 38% of the votes, followed by Flávio Bolsonaro with 31%, while Renan Santos (far right) and Ronaldo Caiado (centre) would both get 4% and Romeu Zema (right) 2%. The survey was carried out between 10 and 13 August on 2,004 people and commissioned by the Globo group. If no candidate exceeds 50% of the valid votes in the first round, the two most voted will compete in the run-off.
