Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrive in Kiev for peace talks

North American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kiev this Sunday (6). They seek to negotiate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

The trip takes place after the mediators met with Russian President Vladimir Putin this Saturday (5). The meeting in Moscow lasted more than 3 hours.

The Kremlin reported that the Americans presented proposals to end the conflict. The conversation was classified as useful, but no agreement was officially announced.

In Kiev, the duo is expected to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader defended dealing with peace and security in coordination with the USA.

Despite the agreement to temporarily suspend attacks, Zelensky accused Russia of bombing airports. Donald Trump stated this Friday (4) that he would present a new peace proposal.

The trip takes place one day after the two met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the White House, the meeting discussed possible next steps to try to end the war.

Witkoff and Kushner argued with Putin for more than three hours on Saturday (5). No agreement was announced after the meeting, and details of the proposals presented were not disclosed.

According to Yuri Ushakov, a Kremlin advisor, the American envoys presented different ideas for a possible solution to the conflict.

He classified the conversation as useful, but did not indicate that there had been any concrete progress in the negotiations.

This will be the duo's first visit to Kiev since acting as mediators in the negotiations. Americans must meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and members of his government.

Before the arrival of the envoys, Zelensky stated that Ukraine was ready for talks and said he considered it necessary to discuss peace and security guarantees in a coordinated manner with the United States.

The new round of negotiations comes amid an intensification of air strikes on both sides. On Saturday, Russian bombings left at least seven dead in Ukraine, according to local authorities.

Russia and Ukraine agreed to temporarily suspend attacks on capitals during negotiations. Still, Zelensky accused Moscow of attacking Kiev and Boryspil airports and stated that the action took place amid preparations for the arrival of the American delegation.

Trump stated on Friday (4) that Witkoff and Kushner would bring a new proposal to try to end the war, but did not reveal its terms.

The White House said the next steps discussed with Moscow should be presented in the coming weeks.
